Back when there was a river…

Yes, a successful downtown shares something that is unique to her culture, her history, her community.  That is why I am still hopeful for a Tucson Origins Heritage Park one day, at the base of Tumamoc Hill.  This is where Tucson began.  Recent good news for all of us is that Donovan Durband has been hired to be ED of Rio Nuevo.  Donovan – let’s bring our origins to fruition!

Meanwhile, some fervent locals continue to raise money for the Mission Gardens.  They have created a non-profit and inch forward to realizing their dream.  Tucson’s best botanists have tracked the history of our mission gardens and hunted down descendant plants.  Some of those plants are being grown and nurtured at Tumacacori right now!

This Sunday, I invite you to a hearty breakfast made from food of our homeland.  $10 supports the ongoing efforts of the Mission Gardens.  Bring some extra cash to take home  a Kino Heritage tree for your own backyard.  Celebrate Tucson’s birthday month by doing something special! Check it out at tucsonsbirthplace.org.

And, advocate to bring our culture and history to life – to celebrate Tucson with our community and her visitors from around the world.
