Art & Artisan

23 Aug

Tucson is home to one of the most incredible museums I have ever visited. Housed in the old firehouse building, MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) is cutting edge and visionary. A show on current issues that effect us all was the most thought-provoking I have ever attended. Check ’em out! And, while you’re at it, head north to TMA to partake in Arizona Biennial 2011. This show is always a fine one. The best of Arizona’s artists in all mediums are showcased through October 2. Meanwhile, photographer & musician Tim Steehler has several works displayed in the newly-opened Sparkroot.

Work has begun on the Reilly building on Pennington, across from Poca Cosa. The Fenton’s will be opening an artisan pizza restaurant.

Today, I mourn the loss of two of my Tucson favorites: Montana Avenue and Telegram. Plenty of family celebrations and fine dining moments took place over the years at Montana Avenue. The staff was always top-notch and the food excellent. The best salmon I ever had. Telegram, a local arts and crafts store featured work of many local and regional artists. I would often find unique gifts there for family and friends. Montana Avenue & Telegram – we miss you both!
