MOCA literally opened their (huge garage) doors to the public last weekend to kick off their summer exhibition. Housed in the former fire station, the space continues to be the perfect place to show work of contemporary artists. MOCA shares art that is interesting, innovative, topical and invites conversation among all who eye it.
They kicked off the perfect pre-summer evening with comfy bean bags and chairs in the courtyard, a DJ and food trucks.
I am always interested to see what they have in their gift shop. Among the current offerings are beautiful ceramic pieces by local artist Nick Tranmer. You’ve gotta check it out! Simple, beautiful and functional.
MOCA reminds us that we have some fantastic art galleries in Tucson, many clustered in the downtown area. Contreras Gallery, Davis Dominguez Gallery and Etherton Gallery are among my favorites. You’ve already heard me rave about Obsidian. Two more recent galleries continue to be consistently excellent, Sacred Machine and Atlas. Many of these galleries kick of the Summer Art Cruise, most having receptions between 6-9 PM Saturday. So, cruise on down to our city’s core, check out the art, support local businesses and maybe even grab a bite. Hope to see you there!
