We Are Blessed

20 Jan

Maybe people don’t immediately think of Tucson as an arts town, say, like Santa Fe, but we have a richness here like none other. Last fall, Rock Martinez gathered his artist friends to create a mural that represents Tucson (you see it in my heading). Their collaboration is beautiful, thought-provoking and represents the fabric of who we are in this place we have all decided to call home.

I hope one day to own a piece of work by at least two of the artists: Titus Castanza is well known for his realist portraits. I was first exposed to his work at the brief stay of Tooley’s Downtown (thanks Patricia). I was exposed to the fantastic clash of cultures – native historic and present – of artist Ruben Moreno on one of those self-guided art tours one spring in his studio home.

So, the next time someone comes to visit you, take them to the northwest corner of Speedway and Stone Avenue, for something truly special.  Or, heck, go yourself and take a picture!  We are truly special, Tucson!
